Digital camera has made photography cool. The flexibility is great; but a few basic tips can help in getting sharper prints, always.

We will avoid dizzying terms like camera optics, polarizing effects, aperture priority exposure and all that. For that kind of exhaustive detail, you may visit the sites at the end of this page. The essential
points we feel are:

1. Shoot at the highest resolution
Set your camera to take photos at highest resolution and quality compression settings. Your camera brochure will have the details. The file sizes of such photos will range from 500 KB to 2 MB. Avoid the tendency to squeeze more images into your camera by shooting at low res. Bigger, the better.

  But what exactly is resolution?
Image resolution is the number of pixels contained in a digital image. Greater amount of these dots that can fit per inch of space, the smaller the dots and the sharper the image. Basically, the greater the number of pixels in the picture, the larger becomes the image file.

2. Mobile phone camera photos are mostly not suitable for printing
Most often, mobile phone photos are of extremely low resolution (20-30KB types). The photo may look deceptively cute on your mobile's tiny screen. But that photo, if printed, will be hazy and pixellated, even for a 4x6" size. Camera phones don't capture good enough detail to make high-quality prints.

But lately, many new models can shoot high-resolution pictures.

3. Photo Composition!
All right, the digital camera allows one to shoot and delete at will. But, that doesn't mean overruling the discipline of composing the photograph. Ensure the subject (or group of people) is focused (at the center of the viewfinder). Ensure individuals and family members are completely in the frame, especially when accompanying infants and newborns. Give sufficient space all around the subject. Shoot at eye level angle - it's elegant. The Ram Gopal Varma-like skewed camera angles will look odd in a photo print.

4. Steady camera
Digital cameras are light. Be steady when you press the button; not too hard and jerk the camera. A steady camera ensures sharp pictures.

5. Lighting, perspective etc.
Digital photography is no different from traditional photography when it comes to the relevance of standard factors like lighting, perspective etc. Bright natural light is always good. When you use flash, make sure the subject is within 15 feet.

The good thing about digital photography is that one can shoot a lot of pictures. They are power guzzlers. Do not forget to carry fully charged back-up batteries and extra memory cards. Just shoot and upload on MeraSnap.com. We will do the rest. It's sheer joy for your loved ones to see your printed photographs.
